THE PROJECT

Art as a donation

Sunday, 19th september 2021. It’s 15:20h when a loud noise in the area of “Cabeza de Vaca”, announced what would appear to be a natural spectacle. The magma starts to flow. Inmediately the tripods and cameras with telephoto lenses start to find their way as close to the crater as possible. The clicking of the cameras seems to be synchronized to the piroclasts being launched from the crater.

By nightfall the social networks were burning and unfortunately so were hundreds of homes, sheds and farms. Some of the images went viral in a way that the next morning they travelled all around the globe.

While these images were travelling, many palmerans were obligated to leave their homes with nothing but the clothes they were wearing, knowing that they would probably never see their homes again. The incredible natural phenomenon slowly turned into a monster and the fast clicking camera shutters slowed down as the anger and sadness took over. What we witnessed in front of our cameras was pure tragedy.

Days later, the tragedy turned into catastrophe. That´s the moment when a wave of solidarity came in and people from all over the place where trying to do their best and help out in any possible way. The person taking a photo is the same that lost their home, the person lending a truck is the same that lost their business, the person giving away baby clothes is the same that had to leave their home with a baby under their arms.

And here we are. Four photographers that are asking ourselves how we can help, by using all of the likes on the social media, the people from an island that has given us so much all these past years. Basically what we intent to do is use this natural phenomenon that has caused such a tragedy to so many people, by selling our photographs and donating all the earnings to those who have lost everything.

HOW DOES IT WORK?

  1. Buy one or more photos through this platform
  2. We donate as soon as possible all the earnings (now is when most money is needed)
  3. We arrange the printing and the shipping so that you´ll receive the print at your home.
